Flood Doctor saved my apartment in Falls Church a couple years ago after the unit above the 10th floor flooded. Their service was prompt and efficient, keeping the damage to the bathroom and hallway minimal. I didn't have to deal with multiple contractors. They literally handled all aspects.Maha Mokaddem - Falls Church, Virginia
Dishwasher flooded our kitchen ruining the flooring in adjacent room and cabinetry. The crew did an amazing job. Talk to the company and worked very diligently ensure things were completed to our satisfaction and in a timely manner. Highly recommend this company
These guys are serious professionals. Friendly, trustworthy and punctual everything I look for in a contractor and more. Couldn't be any happier with their services and plan on using them if I have any other issues in the future. Thanks, Frank and the team!
Can't begin to say how great this company is being. Had severe water damage happen on4/29/17 called them & they were there promptly & immediately assessed the situation & started to work. Would highly recommend them.?
I was overseas for work when our basement flooded. Flood doctor was at work right away despite getting my call late at night. And they managed the damage with speed, courtesy, and accessibility. I felt I could trust them even though I was thousands of miles away which is no small thing.
This is the 2nd time we've used flood doctor in as many years. The 1st time was two years ago after one of our bathrooms flooded the house. This time it was a pipe break in the basement. Both times we've been happy with their work. Both the office staff and their field techs are pleasant and easy to work with. They spent time walking us through everything and kept us updated at all times.
I called several 'Water Damage Restoration' companies and Flood Doctor was the only one that came through. All the others indicated they would not be available until the following morning (not exactly what I call an 'Emergency Response'). My basement unit flooded at 10 pm on the 4th of July holiday weekend after a heavy rainfall and failed sump pump. They were there within a couple of hours and immediately extracted all water.
Dealing with water damage is not going to be a walk in the park, so you have to get all the help you can. Talking with the insurance company in order to cover the water damage costs is a priority here. But you shouldn’t do that without knowing the do’s and don’ts first. So, here are some of the things you have to do and what you have to avoid when you file an insurance claim.
The first thing you need to do is to report the claim as fast as possible because the insurance company can see the damage a lot faster if you do. Also, file a proof of loss and send the supporting documentation. Usually, the insurance companies allow you to do such a thing in around 60 days. Add the supporting documentation to make your case, otherwise, there will be some issues there.
Showcasing the loss in writing and with added photos will allow the insurance company to actually see the water damage. If you can take time-stamped videos and photos, this will also help you quite a lot. Recording any communication with the insurance companies such as phone numbers, names and dates are very important.
Also, your focus has to be on accuracy. Make sure that you keep a good record of everything that happened, and you should tell the adjuster that this was all the damage you saw, there may be other that’s unseen.
Of course, you have to get your own estimates. This way you can evaluate the situation your way. Talking with a home repair company can work to your advantage, so try to keep that in mind. This way you will know the amount that the insurance company has to cover, and it will make discussing with them something a whole lot easier.
Remember that you do not want to throw away any damaged items. You want to have a proof of the damage that can be assessed by the insurance adjuster. Throwing items away will not help in any way, and it will not support your case.
Avoid making any permanent repairs until the insurance company can assess the damage. Documenting the damage is crucial here, and you have to wait until the insurance company comes to inspect the situation. They will not cover your repairs, and that’s something you want to avoid.
Make sure that you don’t rely solely on the adjuster. What you want to do is to be certain that you are always involved in the process. It’s your own home, and the adjuster won’t care about it as much as you do.
Lastly, don’t be discouraged. Filing an insurance claim is a confusing process, it can lead to frustration, but it can also be very helpful. As long as you are calm and have the right amount of patience, the results can indeed be great.
These are the do’s and don’ts that you have to take into consideration when you want to file a flood insurance claim. It’s important to go through this process, as it will make it easy for you to assess the situation and deal with it the right way. Insurance companies can be a great ally during this process, all you need is the right amount of patience!
